Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his initial title for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since spring of 2023.

The win also signifies he has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the initial championship I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to wonder if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden tour title, took control to push for a final set.

He rescued four early-game chances in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
